THE DRAGON ARUM

Posted by Picasa

30 years ago, i went to Eugene O'Karma, my favorite framer.....who restored the elegant gold-leafed frame of the Alma-Tadema, and was attracted to a colored print, hanging on the wall of the work area.....Meet the beautiful and mysterious work of Dr. Robert John Thornton......this mezzotint engraving, published 1 December 1801, is from THE TEMPLE OF FLORA or THE GARDEN OF NATURE....and was engraved by Ward, after the painting by Henderson. It was matted and framed by an old friend, Rick Flynn, and is hung, like a Thanka, protected from the afternoon sunlight by a thin silk veil......
