Persian Shield

 

This small shield would have been used in
close-range hand-to-hand combat...the other
hand would hold a niello dagger or short sword.
This decorative shield would probably have been
used with a fancy dress uniform, and was small
enough to fit over a hilt rising from a scabbard....
